Illegals denied freebies in Arizona

According to a post at Stop the ACLU, those poor, dear people who defy our soverignty and cross our borders illegally aren't going to be getting the free rides from the state of Arizona anymore. Of course, the crying, whining nellies at the New York Slimes (motto: We heart people who help to cripple America!) are having a hissy-tither about it. The question they ask is, "Since they're here illegally, and are already benefitting from our welfare state and having anchor babies all over the place, can't we just go ahead and give them everything else?" The answer, from the state of Arizona: NO!

The New York Times wants you to know that legislators in Arizona are mean to illegal immigrants trying to go to the state's schools on the cheap. The Times wants you to imagine that Arizona's new anti-illegal laws are oppressing those poor, illegal immigrant students that come into Arizona expecting to get all sorts of loans and financial breaks just because… well, just because they happen to draw a breath. The Times wants us all to tsk tsk the state of Arizona because it had the guts to finally do something about the billions of dollars lost to this flood of criminal aliens. Somehow, I don't feel so bad, though.

With the sensational headline, "Arizona Law Takes a Toll on Nonresident Students," the Times gives us the tale of woe of students that want to steal from Arizona's educational system. They begin their tale with the experience of Marco Carrillo who was asked by his college counselor if he was a legal resident or not. The Times acts as if even asking this question is somehow mean-spirited or shocking.

They're just doing jobs other Americans...Ahhhh, who am I trying to kid?

In the Southeast, four teams of ICE officers - two in Atlanta and one each in Raleigh and Charlotte, N.C. - arrested 2,295 people in the 12 months ending Sept. 30; up from 525 in the previous period.Of that number, 1,031 illegal immigrants had ignored a judge's order to leave the country and were fugitives. An additional 123 were both fugitives and criminals; 574 were criminals without deportation orders; and 567 were simply illegal immigrants caught when agents arrested the others.

Shocking news: Cracking down on illegal immigration actually works!!

In a shocking, surprising announcement, Arizona officials have reported that ever since they started cracking down on illegal border-crossers, the number of people trying to cross at the Arizona border has--GASP!!--gone down!! From the Arizona Daily Star, via Rant of the Day:

Most illegal entrants from Mexico apprehended here are currently allowed to return home voluntarily unless a records check shows they have been detained repeatedly or have a criminal history. Only a small fraction of the illegal crossers are prosecuted.

That catch-and-release system, which has been in place since the early 1970s, created an empty threat to many illegal border crossers, said Robert Boatright, the new deputy chief in the Tucson Sector.

"There has to be a consequence. There is little or no consequence until you go to a Streamline-type process," said Boatright, the right-hand man to Gilbert. "It's going to be a change in paradigm; there are going to be consequences to illegal immigration."

Officials are in the process of meeting with representatives from the U.S. Attorney, U.S. Marshals, U.S. Magistrate and Public Defenders Office, among others, to iron out the logistics of implementing the new policy. Officials hope to implement the program it as soon as possible, preferably within the fiscal year, which began on Oct. 1, he said.

Border Patrol officials Wednesday did not elaborate on plans in the Tucson Sector, but Andrea Zortman, an agency spokeswoman, said they are evaluating the entire Southwest border to determine which sectors would benefit from the program.

"It sends a message out that if you cross the border you have committed a crime and we are not going to tolerate that," Zortman said. "In essence, it serves as a deterrent."

Maybe somebody needs to forward that idea to our president. He doesn't seem to realize that in order to keep people from crossing into this country illegally, they need to have a reason to stop. Kinda like the alcoholic needs a reason to stop drinking. Read on:

Officials in both the Del Rio and Yuma sectors have reported dramatic decreases in apprehensions since launching the operation.

In Yuma, which implemented it in December 2006, apprehensions decreased by 68 percent in fiscal year 2007, said Jeremy Schappell, Border Patrol Yuma Sector spokesman. Officials there attribute that to additional fencing, lighting, agents and Operation Streamline.

From Oct. 1, 2006, through Sept. 12, 2007, 1,572 illegal entrants were prosecuted under the program, he said. Nearly all illegal border crossers apprehended end up going to a detention facility south of Phoenix where the average stay is 30 days, he said. The only exceptions are humanitarian cases such as parents with children and the elderly, he said.

"Before, they knew if they got caught, they could try again in a few hours," Schappell said. "Now, when we catch them, they don't have that opportunity anymore. They know when they get caught, they are looking at about 30 days. That's 30 days of income they don't have for their families."

In Del Rio, which initiated Streamline in 2005, apprehensions decreased by 38 percent in the first year.

As I've said many times, I AM NOT against immigrants. My ancestors emigrated here from Europe and Canada back in the 1800's. But they did it the RIGHT WAY! And so did all those who passed through Ellis Island. What I am against is people doing it illegally, just to scarf down more of this country's resources (which are being spread thin enough as it is), make more "anchor babies", then take the money they make here and send it to Mexico.

Here's a math problem for ya: If we add 12-20 million more people to the public rolls, and Hillary manages to push through her Communist programs HillaryCare socialized medicine, who's gonna pick up the tab?

In a shocking development, they've been reported to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Not only did these animals assault this poor woman, they apparently fractured her skull.

Must be a cultural thing. [JWF has a point. Maybe they could use the "Michael Vick defense." You know, "They do it all the time where I'm from and it's no big deal, etc.--Ed.]

I'm sure they were very hard-working fellows, out at 1:40 in the morning attacking women.

3 undocumented immigrants held in rape attempt.

Three undocumented immigrant men remain jailed today in the brazen sexual assault of an unconscious woman in Fairview, an outdoor attack interrupted by law officers early Tuesday, authorities said.

Police reported the men, all undocumented residents from Guatemala, to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, authorities said. The report was in accordance with a recent directive from the state attorney general, ordering local officers to check the immigration status of all suspects charged with serious crimes or drunken driving.

So, has New Jersey finally figured out that the more we coddle these criminals by allowing them to stay here, the worse it's going to get? Now they need to take the next step, start rounding these people up, and ship them back to wherever they come from BEFORE they rape, kill, etc.

Dear Ms. Arellano--stay in Mexico!!

You know, Elvira Arellano is really getting to be a pain in the neck. First, she holes up in a church in the "sanctuary city" of Chicago, then when she tries to skeedaddle to LA, she gets arrested and deported. Now she is demanding--yes, DEMANDING--that the Mexican government pressure the US into letting her slither back over our border, making her this week's "Illegal Immigrant Criminal of the Week" (via Hot Air):

Mexican Foreign Secretary Patricia Espinosa said she approached U.S. authorities on Arellano's behalf after the 32-year-old activist asked Mexican President Felipe Calderon to help her return to the United States legally as a "peace and justice" ambassador. [Yeah, sure. After trying to boss us around, and demanding this and that, now she wants to be some "peace" ambassador--Ed.]

Espinosa did not say whether Mexico planned to give Arellano the diplomatic post, but said officials were trying to determine if there was any way she could could go back to Chicago.

Arellano's U.S.-born 8-year-old son, Saul, is a U.S. citizen. He flew to Mexico on Friday to be reunited with his mother, and plans to stay [in Mexico] indefinitely, although he was expected to return briefly to the United States this month to participate in an immigrant-rights march.

Mexico has yet to receive an answer from U.S. officials, Espinosa said at a news conference Tuesday.

"The government in the receiving country has to authorize diplomatic posts. It has to grant the visa," Espinosa said.

Arellano said she would not back down from her request and was angered that Mexico was seeking a U.S. visa, adding that the Mexican government should not have to ask permission to send her north of the border.

"I'm not asking for any visa," she said. "I want a diplomatic post as ambassador of peace and justice, and I won't accept anything less."

Well, you're going to have to, lady! This is the United States of America! If you want to live here so bad, do it LEGALLY!!! If you don't like our laws, TOO BAD! But don't come into OUR country and demand that we change our laws for YOU! Who do you think you are? You and the rest of your Aztlan/LaRaza buddies ain't gonna take over this country without a fight. This is our country! If you don't come here legally, then GET OUT!!!!

Chalk up another one for the good guys

From the Cincinatti Enquirer:

All 161 people taken into custody Tuesday during a federal raid at Koch Foods in Fairfield have been identified as illegal immigrants, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokesman said Wednesday.

The detainees are from eight countries, including Mexico, Guatemala and Peru.

Eighty of those remain in ICE custody, spokesman Greg Palmore said. Another 20 have been charged with state offenses, including forgery and taking the identity of another, and are in the Butler County jail, he said.

The remaining 61 were released for "humanitarian reasons," Palmore said. They were either the sole caregiver or had medical concerns, he said.

Those released were given notices to appear before an immigration judge at a future date, Palmore said. [Wake Up America notes--"Any bets on whether they will show up in front of the judge?"]

As far as any possible charges against Koch Foods, Palmore would only say: "The investigation is continuing. It's ongoing."

Chicago-based Koch Foods said the company is cooperating with customs enforcement officials.

"As part of our standard employment process, we require employees to provide documentation in accordance with the law, and we have implemented a program to audit this documentation," the statement reads. "Koch Foods is committed to complying with all immigration laws, and we look forward to resolving the matter quickly."

Wake Up America also has posted a news release from the ICE, which says,

"Unlawful employment is one of the key magnets drawing illegal aliens across our borders," said Julie L. Myers, Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for ICE. "When illegal aliens use fraudulent documents or engage in identity theft, they not only exploit a vulnerability, they also cause real harm to U.S. citizens. We will pursue egregious violators by seeking criminal charges and continue to deploy tools such as the new social security no match guidelines to help businesses comply with the law."

Arizona: showing how to deal with illegals

Wow. This is hard to believe, considering the bill was signed by Janet Napolitano, a flaming left-winger. But, alas, the state of Arizona is indeed showing the rest of the country how to deal with illegal immigrants: You gotta get tough with them (via Captain's Quarters):

The immigration hard-liners appear to have proven one of their main arguments. Illegal immigrants who face a loss of employment due to strict employer sanctions will move elsewhere, and rather quickly. One talk-radio host that caters to what the Republic calls "undocumented immigrants" estimates that the departure rate has already hit 100 per day. It will likely increase until most of them depart before the end of the year, when their jobs will disappear.

Arizona passed employer sanctions with a particular bite. Rather than set up an escalating series of fines, which has been the federal approach, the state opted to put employers out of business. A first offense gets a ten-day suspension of the firm's business license, which would close the doors during that period. A subsequent offense revokes the business license permanently. Needless to say, that has provided an incentive to business owners to start checking identities through the federal database and terminating anyone who doesn't clear the system.

The Arizona Chamber of Commerce heads a coalition that wants the law repealed based on a Constitutional challenge, but it's hard to see how they can succeed. The state can impose sanctions on business licenses it issues, and it can insist that employers check for worker eligibility. The real issue for the ACC is labor shortages. The state currently has an unemployment rate of 3.7%, statistically full employment. Arizona employers will have to raise wages to compete for workers, which will cost consumers more but allow for more money in the market as well. It also might prompt business to push for automation where possible, using technology to fill the gaps.

My wife and I used to have to go to a laundromat which was located in the Inskip community of Knoxville, an area which could only be called "Little Mexico". These people were so bold that when they set up a business, all their signs were completely in Spanish, not a lick of English. Perhaps the state of Tennessee could learn a little something, and start cracking down on the flood of illegals into our state.

Could somebody do something about the border?

Yeah, it's kinda silly, but we just might want to keep out people who want to, oh, I don't know, kill us. From Patterico:

"The number of Iraqis seeking asylum as they enter the United States over the nation’s Southwest border has nearly tripled this year compared with last, and the year isn’t even over, said Director of National Intelligence Mike McConnell, a member of the president’s Cabinet who oversees the nation’s 16 intelligence agencies.

In the 2006 calendar year, U.S. Customs and Border Protection intercepted 60 asylum seekers, whereas so far in 2007, there have been 178, according to information provided by McConnell’s office. Many more Iraqis want to immigrate to the United States than have been allowed in recent years, according to media reports, a situation that probably explains some of the activity.

None of the Iraqis have been linked to terrorist activities, but McConnell said the crossings show that more attention is being paid to the Southwest border, including by terrorist groups searching to find entry routes — legal and illegal — with the goal of causing "mass casualties" after they arrive.

He goes on to point out this quote:

"And although the numbers are classified, McConnell said, a relatively small number of people with known links to terrorist organizations have been caught crossing the Southwest border."

But, hey, maybe we just need to listen to Geraldo and let everybody in. Commenter Buzzy posited:

Reading the news about how the Clinton CIA actually never had a plan to deal with bin Laden I have to wonder if someday Bush’s legacy might be how his administration refused to secure our borders from terrorists all for low wage illegal workers from Mexico.

Houstonian latest winner of IICOTW

That stands for "Illegal Immigrant Criminal Of The Week". I was going to give it to Elvira Arellano, for being such an outspoken tool for the illegal immigrant lobby. But, this caught my attention over at Michelle Malkin's site:

Felinda Williams couldn’t make herself go to court on a recent morning, couldn’t bring herself to look at the man accused of driving drunk and killing her daughter, her son-in-law and her 2-year-old grandson.

She knows few details of the Aug. 11 crash in Houston that killed the newlyweds and the little boy nicknamed “Peanut Butter.” She does know that her daughter didn’t die on impact. The young woman, according to reports, felt the flames and begged helpless bystanders to pull her free.

The grieving woman knows two things about Juan Felix Salinas, the man charged in connection with their deaths: She knows his name, and she knows he was in the U.S. illegally, out on bail after an earlier arrest.

“He’s been through the courts and the jail before, and nobody caught it,” Williams said. “If they’d caught it, he would have been in jail or deported, and then he wouldn’t have been out there on the streets, and my babies would still be alive.”

Many families share Ms. Williams' pain. Many families whose loved ones would still be alive today if not for a pourous border, hamstrung law enforcement agencies, "sanctuary cities", and a Congress that is in the back pocket of companies that want cheap labor.

Apparently, she's not the criminal here. It's us, because we allow so many criminal crossings. While the massive flood of illegal immigrants is criminal, does that mean if I go to Wal-Mart and leave my car unlocked, that I'm the criminal because someone broke in? (via Hot Air):

Arellano, however, was focused Monday evening on the agonizing question of whether her son, Saul, would stay with her in Mexico or return to Chicago, where he has lived most of his life. Family friend Rev. Walter “Slim” Coleman said late Monday he expects the boy will return to Chicago for school. Earlier, Arellano had said she hoped he would stay with her, but would take Saul’s wishes into account.

“I will continue to tell him about the beauties of my country,” she said. “He will know that he will have a marvelous future here.”…

Arellano said Monday that she has no intention of trying to return either legally or illegally to the United States. She has already received a job offer in Mexico.
“I am in my country. I can walk through the streets free, without fear,” she said.

Well, if that's your country, then stay there. If you and your son will have such a bright future in Mexico, then tell your ocntrymen to stay there as well, until they can come to our country through the proper channels!

I am not against people emigrating to this country. My great-great-great-grandfather came here from the Highlands of Scotland sometime way-back-when. My ancestors on my father's side came here from Holland and Germany. But they went through the proper channels, they did not spit in the face of--and disrespect--the laws of this land! And it is not fair to the citizens of the United States--or those who emigrate here the right way--for these people to jump the line and demand money and every other service from our government.

This woman is a tool for the Mexican government to use in dumping all their problems into the U.S.

If someone breaks into my house, plops himself into my chair, grubs through my refrigerator, and demands that I feed and raise his kids, I have the right to call the police and have him arrested, because he entered my house illegally, and his continued presence in my house is a crime.

A three-judge panel of an appeals court in Kansas just held that an illegal alien’s “ongoing presence in the United States in and of itself is not a crime” unless the illegal alien reentered the country after a previous deportation. (Source)

Can you believe it? Entering the U.S. in violation of the law is illegal. Being in the U.S. in violation of the law may not be illegal. How and under what condition could that ever make sense? Isn’t it common sense that an illegal alien, by virtue of breaking the law, is a criminal? That’s why he’s called an illegal alien. His mere presence inside these borders makes him an outlaw.

But I’m jumping the border…I mean, the gun. The facts:

Some drug-dealing moron named Nicholas Martinez had his kid deliver drugs to an undercover cop (rotten luck!). He was arrested and charged with the sale of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, endangering a child, theft, and unlawful possession of an identification card. Under a plea agreement, he pled to possession and endangering a child.

Illegal activist arrested after leaving sanctuary

Her name is Elvira Arellano, and she wants everyone in this country to know that we should bend over backwards and give in to the millions of illegal immigrants who have disrepected our laws and have come here illegally. Check out this quote (ht: Allahpundit at Hot Air):

"From the time I took sanctuary the possibility has existed that they arrest me in the place and time they want," she said in Spanish. "I only have two choices. I either go to my country, Mexico, or stay and keep fighting. I decided to stay and fight."

Well if Mexico's YOUR country, then go there and stay there. But don't come back here and strat causing more of a ruckus than you already have. AP ends his post with this:

She’s in Tijuana now so it’ll be easy to slip back in, but once she does the media’s going to cover it and that’s not the type of case study on border enforcement that the “undocumented community” is keen to have. I’m sure most of them are begging her to stay put, but her son’s here and she wanted to attend a vigil in D.C. on September 12 so who knows if she’ll listen?

One comment I want to make about this entire eff-u America episode. How tiring is the blather about “separating families?” That was a prevailing meme here and has been during this entire joke of a debate (there is no debate, this is a sovereign nation and we have the right to keep it that way). How about this: if you are illegal, if you have been caught spitting on the laws of OUR land and you have happened to exploit this country even more by having children here while occupying the US illegally — take your kids with you like all GOOD parents do when they move. Illegals have assumed a risk, not only for themselves but for their children, so if anyone is to blame for “separating families,” it is the illegal who leaves his children behind.

The bigger fish to fry is the sick perversion of the 14th Amendment that allows the destructive “anchor baby” industry — a crooked cash cow and political assault weapon for law-breakers that will absolutely cripple social services and health care in border states should the illegal invasion be allowed to continue.

Apartment complex in Knoxville tells illegals to hit the road

Well finally! Somebody in Knoxville is standing up to the "La Raza" crowd. The owners of Lakeview Apartments has sent out a letter to all its tenants, telling them that if they are in this country illegally, they need to get out or they will be reported (from Knoxville News Sentinel):

LOUISVILLE, TN — Managers of an apartment complex with a high concentration of Hispanics have told residents that if they are illegal immigrants, they must move out by the end of the month.

“This management company and the building owner will not accept or allow any illegal aliens to live in the apartments,” reads the opening line of a three-paragraph letter addressed to all tenants of Lakeview Apartments in Louisville.

The letter orders all illegal immigrants to vacate their apartments by the end of August or face the threat of being reported to “the proper authorities. You will be arrested and deported,” it states.

But the threat by Meadowland Property Management may not have any legal teeth. J. Carlos Maciel, general manager of Lakeview Apartments, sent the letter Monday, leaving tenants 18 days to get out.

So, send out another one saying they have 30 days, whatever.

But, of course, you got some around here who just have to pander:

Late Wednesday, Lisa Barba, a community organizer for the immigrant coalition, met with a group of nearly 20 illegal immigrant residents of Lakeview Apartments in a sweltering upstairs unit and “gave them information on their rights and told them what to do in case of a raid or arrest.”

Addressing the group in Spanish, she gave them a list of attorneys who either speak Spanish or have an assistant who does and furnished them with a card in English that they can give to an arresting officer asserting their rights to be silent and to have an attorney.

Juana Sanchez and Jose Barillas, both illegal immigrants who work two jobs each in the food service industry, are among the Lakeview residents affected by the vacate order. The Mexico natives say they are trying to find another place to live and do not know exactly what they will do.

So, they have at least 20 illegals living there now.

Question: If the ICE got a tip that there were illegals living in these apartments, raided the complex, and levied fines, wouldn't the management have a good reason to be angry with the illegals? Therefore, shouldn't management be able to make sure they themselves are abiding by the law, and protect themselves? Or are they supposed to just look the other way and allow law-breakers to continue breaking the law on their premises?

Sorry, folks. People in this ocuntry are waking up to the fact that we have to do something about this problem, and amnesty is not going to be a solution!

Democrats: Not getting it since...

OK, here's the deal: an illegal immigrant rounds up a few of his buddies to murder some black kids. Oops, one of them decides not to die, and finers the goon and his buddies. And with the rise in crime among the illegal immigrant population (above and beyond the fact that they are criminals as soon as they step foot in this country), the mayor of Newark, and the governor and AG of New Jersey decide to do something about it by...cracking down on gun owners. No, really (via Jammie Wearing Fool):

Mayor Cory A. Booker, Gov. Jon S. Corzine and Attorney General Anne Milgram were joined today by other mayors and elected officials to announce several legislative and policy measures to fight gun trafficking and gun violence in the City of Newark.

The four-point plan will be rolled out over the next three months and will allow the city to better police the guns within its borders and recognize the footprints of trafficking trends in the state.

Nah, don't worry about all the illegal immigrants you are coddling. Don't bother with the fact that Carranza shouldn't have been in this country in the first place, or that the term "sanctuary city" is code word for, "If you are here illegally, you can do whatever you want in this city, and we won't report you. wink wink nudge nudge."

Dear Mel Martinez: Just which party are you working for?

Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't the chairman of the Republican Party be encouraging GOP candidates to get behind the issues that matter to the voters? You know, the legal voters in this country? So why is Mel Martinez lambasting Romney and Rudy over their stances on illegal immigration? (from the Washington Times):

The Republican Party's national chairman scolded his party's two top presidential candidates this week for their tough stance on illegal immigration, even as both men moved to try to one-up each other in calling for stricter enforcement.

Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida, President Bush's handpicked choice for party chairman, chided former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former New York Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani for opposing and mischaracterizing the Senate immigration bill Mr. Martinez helped craft.

"It's about leading on the tough issues," Mr. Martinez told the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce in comments first reported in yesterday's St. Petersburg Times. "It was easy to say, 'This wasn't good enough, this isn't right, I don't agree with Martinez.' ... But at the end of the day, what is your answer? How would you solve this?"

(BTW, anybody who uses the phrase "at the end of the day" loses credibility immediately.)

Why are the leading candidates so tough on illegal immigration? Because that's what the American voters want!! We want our borders protected. We want the people who are in this country illegally sent home. We want stricter enforcement of laws against hiring poeple who are not in this country legally!

Maybe Mr. Martinez didn't get the memo about the latest attempt at giving these people amnesty got shot down. Not by beltway politics, not by "big business", but by the American people standing up and saying "NO!!!" Trent Lott went so far as to say that talk radio helped kill the Amnesty Bill. That's why every liberal in the land started crying about bringing back the "Fairness Doctrine." Because talk radio is the one news medium that isn't controlled by liberals (except for that eeeeevil FOX News).

Mr. Martinez, wake up!! The people want secure borders. We want law and order restored to the immigration process. We want the government to have some idea about the people who are coming into this country. Three young people in Newark are dead. Two men lost their lives this week in a hit-and-run by an illegal immigrant. Anthony Senisi was murdered by an illegal immigrant on his wedding anniversary. It's time to put an end to this nonsense, Mr. Martinez.

With so many illegal immigrants victimizing people who are actual legal citizens of this country, it's about time somebody stood up and publicly denounced these so-called "sanctuary cities." Ironically, Newark, NJ is among this cabal.

If you listen to folks who oppose immigration and border enforcement, you get the feeling they think we put locks on our doors to keep everybody out. The truth is we have locks so we can choose who comes in.

An example of what happens when we don’t make the choice took place August 4th when three Newark, New Jersey, college students with great promise were executed, gangland style. The killers’ ringleader was apparently an illegal alien indicted twice in 2007 for felonies, including the rape of a kindergarten-aged girl.

Why would such a person be set free instead of being handed over to authorities for deportation? The answer is that Newark is a “sanctuary city” which bans cooperation between local officials and federal immigration officials. More than 60 sanctuary zones, including 30 of America’s largest cities, provide a national networked haven for foreign and organized criminals who recruit and operate outside those areas as well. These sanctuaries include Cambridge, Massachusetts; Los Angeles, California; Detroit, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; Austin and Houston, Texas; Denver, Colorado; and New York City.

The consequences of “sanctuary cities” may be most obvious in the city that became the first in 1979 — Los Angeles. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, a confidential California Department of Justice study from the mid-1990’s showed then that at least 60 percent of the members of L.A.’s most violent gangs, with membership in the tens of thousands, were illegal aliens. Of all outstanding murder warrants in Los Angeles, 95 percent are for illegal aliens. Frustrated police say they are powerless to pick up even well-known, previously deported felons.

The costs of policies that offer shelter to criminals are borne not just by the citizens of Newark, Cambridge, and other sanctuaries though. According to the investigative arm of Congress, the Government Accountability Office, illegal aliens made up 27 percent of the federal prison population in 2005, totaling 49,000 and costing federal taxpayers $1.2 billion. There were also more than 220,000 illegals in state and local prisons and jails. Now, I am not suggesting that all illegal aliens are violent criminals. They are not. Most are peaceful folks just trying to get by like the rest of us. But we would be far better off if we checked on people as they come into the country rather than find out who the bad ones are after they victimize people here.

We have the right to keep criminal predators out of our home. Those who want to immigrate into America need to knock, identify themselves, and ask permission first. They will not do so though if we can’t even ask who they are, which is prevented in sanctuary cities. Now I am a strong federalist, but immigration is a responsibility of the federal government, and the failures of local officials to enforce our national laws have a direct impact on communities around the country. So federal law must be enforced, or our neighborhoods will continue to be the scene of chilling and lurid crimes committed by those who broke the law in the first place to come to America.

So, while the mayor of Newark is declaring that justice will be done swiftly, he's one of the reasons those kids were murdered to begin with. Maybe he ought to just come out and admit that it is the city's failed policy of coddling these murderous criminals that led to the murders of three youn people in his (not-so) fair city. Yeah, that'll happen. Right after Ray "Chocolate City" Nagin admits he's partly to blame for the mess after Katrina.

I hope he filled out the right paperwork!

EL PASO, Texas — A Border Patrol agent shot and killed a suspected smuggler at a fence that separates the U.S. and Mexico after the agent felt threatened by the man, authorities said Thursday....Jose Alejandro Ortiz Castillo, a 23-year-old man who had been caught crossing the border 28 times since 1999, died in Mexico shortly after the Wednesday night shooting, Border Patrol spokesman Doug Mosier said.

Well, if you ask a certain pair of former BP agents, this agent better fill out the right forms, or he could wind up in prison.

Now, it's one thing for criminals like Ortiz to disrespect our laws, our borders, and our soverignty. But listen to the response from the Mexican government:

Mexico criticized what it described as an "excessive use of force" against immigrants and demanded an investigation...The Mexican government demanded in a statement that "all the weight of the law be brought to bear against the person or persons responsible."

"The Mexican government expresses a firm protest against the use of lethal weapons in the face of situations that do not represent a proportionate risk," the Foreign Relations Department said.

Hey Mexico, how about you keep your criminals in your own country? Why should we have to put up with the constant flood of illegals into this country? Especially when so many of them are violent criminals?

An unidentified agent spotted Ortiz apparently leading two men and a woman through a hole in the border fence just east of downtown El Paso. Ortiz, who was carrying bolt cutters, picked up a rock as the agent was arresting the woman, Mosier said.

Mosier said the agent felt threatened by the actions of the assailant who was holding a rock and bolt cutters."

And

Ortiz had been deported from the U.S. in 2004, Mosier said.

Of course, in the eyes of the Mexican government, the Border Patrol agent should have just let Ortiz bash him over the head. I mean, what was he thinking, defending himself against a guy that has been shipped back to Mexico 28 TIMES!!! Hey Mexico, guess what? WE DON'T WANT HIM!!! You take, him, keep him, do something about him.

It's bad enough that we have two border patrol agents in prison because they didn't fill out the proper forms in triplicate. But for crying out loud, it's getting so bad that if a caravan of Al-Qaeda vehicles was rolling across our border, our guys can't so much as threaten to f*rt in their general direction without facing some kind of discipline.

...of the "Illegal Immigrant Criminal of the Week" goes to 19-year-old Mejia Cinto, who has killed a man that other Americans were to lazy to kill. On the man's wedding anniversary. The New York Post:

August 9, 2007 -- An illegal Mexican immigrant and gang member wanted in the stabbing death of a Brooklyn dad killed on his way home from a milk run on his wedding anniversary was cornered yesterday in a Pennsylvania hideout, authorities said.

Mejia Cinto, 19, was nabbed at 3 a.m. in West Hazleton in the Poconos.

"His traveling companions, individuals that are known to him, concealed his identity, his whereabouts," said Pennsylvania State Trooper James Surmick.

The teen waived extradition and faces murder and weapon charges in the coldblooded slaying of Anthony Senisi, 44, last Saturday night in Brighton Beach. Senisi's dad and NYPD brother were told of the arrest at the victim's wake last night, and were "grateful," a source said.

According to a law-enforcement source, Senisi's murder was unprovoked.

"He [Cinto] came across the victim, who looked at him, and the suspect just stabbed him," the source said.
