So just who IS "Big Brother" anyway?

For so many years, liberals like to run around crowing about how we conservatives were "Big Brother" because......well, I'm not quite sure WHERE they came up with that idea, but they liked to say it anyway. But let's see who "Big Brother" REALLY is:

Conservatives believe
  • Everybody should have the chance to succeed on their own

  • Liberals believe
  • Everybody should have the chance to succeed only if they have the blessing of the federal government

  • -----------------------------

    Conservatives believe
  • If a person is successful, they should enjoy the rewards of their labor

  • Liberals believe

  • If a person is successful, they should surrender the fruits of their labor to the all-wise, all-knowing federal government

  • -----------------------------

    Conservatives believe
  • If a person is successful, they should keep the lion's share of their profits

  • Liberals believe
  • If a person is successful, they should give up the lion's share of their profits to people who won't get off the couch and work for them

  • -----------------------------

    Conservatives believe
  • Competition leads to better, less expensive products and less reliance on the government, therefore it is good

  • Liberals believe
  • Competition leads to hurt feelings, low self-esteem, and less reliance on the government, therefore it is bad

  • -----------------------------

    Conservatives believe
  • Free speech, including religious speech, is protected by the Constitution

  • Liberals believe
  • Free speech, including religious speech, is limited to only those people whose beliefs and speech agree exactly with their own

  • -----------------------------

    Conservatives believe
  • The government serves at the behest of the people

  • Liberals believe
  • The people serve at the behest of the government

  • -----------------------------

    Conservatives believe
  • Supreme Court judges should evaluate cases based on the Constitution

  • Liberals believe
  • Supreme Court judges should evaluate cases based on whose heart bleeds more

  • -----------------------------

    Conservatives believe
  • The whole "freedom of religion" thingy in the Constitution is Constitutional

  • Liberals believe
  • That stupid old "freedom of religion" thing doesn't belong in the Constitution

  • -----------------------------

    Conservatives believe
  • Speech like "homosexuality is a sin" is protected by the Constitution

  • Liberals believe
  • Speech like "homosexuality is a sin" is not protected by the Constitution, while speech like "You are a stupid, knuckle-dragging, homophobic Bible-thumping @%#!!*^%" is protected.

  • So, let's look at the differences in summary

    Conservatives believe:
    • People have the ability to succeed on their own
    • People keeping most of the money they earn
    • Freedom of speech is for everybody
    • Freedom of religion is for everybody
    • The Constitution is for everybody
    • The government is the servant of the people

    Liberals believe:
    • People are unable to do anything without the government
    • People should surrender all of their money to the government
    • Freedom of speech (as long as it is sanctioned by the government)
    • Freedom of religion (as long as it is sanctioned by the government)
    • The Constitution is for everybody (as long as you agree with the government)
    • The people are the servants of the government

So, just who is "Big Brother"?
