It goes by many names, but is most commonly known as waffle-osis, or Kerry-Heinz Syndrome (KHS). The most common way it manifests itself is to cause the victim to be for something, then be against it. In the most recent outbreak, 2004 Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry-Heinz (after whom the malady was named) told the world that he war for the Iraq war before he was against it.
This year, it has struck again. This time, the victim is Hillary Ramrod Clinton. In April of 2006, Bill Clinton's wife was quoted as saying:
"I would certainly take nuclear weapons off the table."However, since she has contracted KHS, her views have changed drastically. At a Democratic primary debate, she heard Barack
it would be "a profound mistake" to deploy nuclear weapons in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This quote from
"I don't believe that any president should make any blanket statements with respect to the use or non-use of nuclear weapons."This confusion, of saying one thing at one time then turning around and saying another, was a hallmark of the Clintons' years in the White House. However, it is obvious that Bill Clinton's wife has now developed a full-fledged case of waffle-osis. A report in the New England Journal of Medicine is pending.
